New seasons, new experiences. After the triumph that is Guinness Zero, I had hopes. So the steak went on the bbq & this went in the shade. As a Shiraz I was hoping for the deep bold tones the grape is known for & dared to hope for a little complexity. That lead to it being ‘fun Bob’ in the drinking. This is more of a light fruity drink with the hint of fizz others have written about. Despite the surprise to find it in a red, the fizz wasn’t actually unpleasant. Just a shame it didn’t add much over real fruit juice

Smells great but... this is nasty with a watery aftertaste. Only way it was vaguely passable was to microwave a mug of it and drink it really hot!

I wasn’t expecting much from this. Having been a teetotaller for some years, wine approximations were usually just bitter fruit juice or bath water. Enter stage left Mcguigan Zero. The smell, the taste and the texture are what you would expect from a Shiraz, with none of the bite of the alcohol granted, but it’s a very good facsimile of the real deal. Quaff it to your hearts content with no fear of a hangover! Come in a crate of 6 too. What excellent value!

Too fruity for a Shiraz

I know wine, and it will be no surprise that this doesn’t taste like 14% Shiraz, but it is a very pleasant, sophisticated, adult grape juice that isn’t sweet, has some complexity and looks the part in a glass on the table, so you don’t feel or look left out. It’s also very cheap without all that alcohol duty, and the producers very decently pass the savings on, unlike some other non alcoholic drinks makers

- So, non alcoholic wine, is it just grape juice? - It's grape juice that went bad. Joking of course, it's not that bad! First time trying alcohol free wine and I'm not sure what I was expecting. It's fizzy in the beginning, quite acidic but sweet. Notes of jam and cherry, but then not much body. An interesting beverage but not sure if I'll buy it again ?
